What does "online garden design" actually mean? Is there a video call?

No video call needed. You complete a 25–35 minute intake with photos, measurements, and written context about your yard and what you want. We design from your intake. Everything is handled through email and a structured revision form after delivery.

How long does it take from paying to receiving my plan?

Accepted Answer

Design begins within one business day of a complete intake. Standard plans deliver on a predictable timeline, typically within 5–7 business days of intake submission. If your intake is incomplete we’ll reach out before starting.

Question 3

What do I need to have ready before starting?

Accepted Answer

About 25–35 minutes, your property address, rough measurements of the areas you want designed, and the ability to take 12 photos (overview, cardinal directions, overhead if possible, soil surface, soil cross-section, drainage, existing structures, existing plants, and neighboring features). A few inspiration images also help.

What if my photos aren't great? Can I still do this?

Accepted Answer

Clear, well-lit photos make for a better plan, but imperfect photos are workable. If any required photos are unusable we’ll reach out before design begins and ask for re-shoots. The intake process surfaces photo quality issues before we commit to a draft.

Question 5

I don't know my sun exposure or soil type. Is that okay?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The intake accepts "unknown" for most conditions. We auto-enrich from your address where we can — USDA hardiness zone, average frost dates, regional soil profile — and we design resiliently when conditions are uncertain. You’ll get a plan that works with or tests the unknowns rather than one that assumes them.

Question 6

What's included at $299 versus $999? What changes?

Accepted Answer

The deliverable set is identical at every price. What changes is scope: at $299 you get one zone of 500 sq ft or less; at $999 you get six or more zones, or a larger-square-foot single zone. Every plan includes the illustrated design, plant palette, soil guidance, sourcing list, contractor brief, phased schedule, revisions, and a 30-day Q&A window.

Do you work in my state?

We work with homeowners across the United States. The intake captures your USDA hardiness zone and local climate context, which informs plant selection. We don’t currently serve commercial properties or international addresses.

What if I don't like the plan you send me?

Accepted Answer

Every plan includes revision rounds. Revisions are submitted through a structured form that asks about satisfaction per section and specific changes, and we turn revisions around within three business days. If you’re unhappy with the outcome even after revisions, refer to our refund policy.

Question 9

What if a plant you recommend doesn't survive?

Accepted Answer

Plants are living things, and success depends on many factors beyond the design — installation quality, weather, pests, watering, and luck. We recommend plants that should thrive in your zone, soil, and sun given what the intake tells us. We can’t guarantee any individual plant will survive, but the plan is built to maximize your odds.

Question 10

Do you install the plan? Can you recommend a contractor?

We don’t install. The plan includes a contractor-ready brief a local landscaper can execute from directly. We don’t currently maintain a preferred-installer list nationwide; check with neighborhood groups, Houzz, or local nursery recommendations.

How is this different from hiring a local landscape designer?

Local designers visit your site, charge significantly more ($2,000–$10,000+), and may have weeks or months of wait time. Our service is entirely online, scope-priced from $299, begins within one business day, and delivers a complete plan that works for DIY or contractor installation. If you want on-site consultation or hardscape design at scale, hire local.

My project is bigger than your matrix. Can I still work with you?

Yes. Projects that fall outside the matrix — because of total square footage, number of zones, or project complexity — are handled as Full Garden engagements. The process follows our same structured intake, with additional scoping questions tailored to your project. Because Full Garden engagements vary widely in the work they require, each one is reviewed and quoted individually once we understand the full picture. Submit a Full Garden request to start; you receive a written quote before any work begins.
